What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

There were many titles that were presented during the opening sequence of the movie The Conjuring. The titles shown were first the people who wrote the script. Second, the individuals who produced the film or helped. The third title was the name of the production team. The fourth titles were a sequence of the names of all the families that are in the movie. The fifth was the editor of the movie which was Kirk Morri. The last title was the company that owns the movie.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The images prioritized were pictures of families, haunted house, a cemetery, haunted dolls, a sentimental group of individuals with masks coverings or there heads and a old plantation with a rope tied on a tree. Most of these pictures were presented in a black and white font giving a spooky representation of the scenery and people.

What connotations do these images carry?

The images carry a very negative connotation. Starting with the picture of the Ku Klux Klan in black and white marching through the woods. Another picture was the view of the cemetery while it was raining, this gives a very sad, depressed, spooky impression on the image and film altogether which gives the assumption that there are ghosts there possibly. The last picture that gave this negative  connotation was the images of the haunted doll, this pop up was so scary because the doll was looking very angry which may implant that it has a ghost in it.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

This film establishes the feeling of a horror right out the gate with demonic music being playing in the opening sequence and the images presented. The images of the haunted doll, old family pictures, haunted house, cemetery, Ku Klux Clan, and newspaper articles of deaths and ghost hunters. Also, all of these images were shown in black and white which gave a cursed presentation of the film which may have given the theme of the movie early.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The first strategy that was noticed was the numerous newspaper articles shown about the deaths of people and ghost hunters on the rise. This makes the audience want to watch the movie to see what is going on in the city or world so they can understand why that outcome has proceeded. The second strategy was the use of images involving the environment the movie was taking place. The cemetery,  house, plantation, and haunted museum all give the film a scary presentation that gives the audience a feeling of a horror film.

How has technology been used effectively?

There wasn't much seen from technology being used in the film but, there were little things that made a difference. The use of color in the film with images being shown in black and white gives the theme of a horror film its honor. The other element seen was the camera roll transition which gives the film an old spooky presentation for the conjuring like everything is haunted.
